Katie Carmichael’s photographs pursue the transient and ethereal
qualities of the natural world. With each image, the artist seeks to
recreate an embodied, multisensory and sometimes emotional engagement
with the landscape. Employing a nostalgic tonal palette and often devoid of
human presence, her compositions allow for a momentary suspension of time
and place, luring the viewer into an intimate dialogue with nature and offering
rare moments of quiet contemplation.
Carmichael is a Melbourne-based photographic artist. Having grown up
with a darkroom in her family home, her early appreciation of photography
developed into an intuitive handling of the medium. She went on to major
in Fine Arts at Photography Studies College, Melbourne before working for
some of Australia’s leading commercial photographers. Her practice is now
focused on individual artistic projects and large-scale commissions for
architectural and commercial clients.
All photographs are giclee prints on 100% cotton rag archival paper.
Each work is meticulously handcrafted and framed in Melbourne,
using a workshop that provides museum standard services
with a wide range of bespoke options for stained or painted finishes.
Katie Carmichael works directly with designers and architects throughout
Australia to realise a shared creative response to the client’s needs.
Previous commissions have involved the production of custom artworks for
corporate foyers, boardrooms and the interior fit out of contemporary Australian
hotels. For further information, please get in touch.
